I was asked in 2015 to compose a soundtrack for a documentary on the establishment of a youth Pipe Band in the Govan area of Glasgow, where I was resident at the time. Pìobairean Beaga Bhaile Ghobhainn (The Wee Govan Pipers) aired on BBC Alba and this piece, “Dìleab na h-Aibhne” (“The River’s Legacy”), featured as the programme’s main theme. It was inspired by thoughts of the River Clyde’s lasting influence on Glasgow, Scotland and the wider world but, in particular, the role it has played in the changing fortunes and migrations of the Gaels.
