I composed this tune for my wife, Maria Henderson (née MacInnes) of Stoneybridge, South Uist, on the occasion of our marriage in June 2019. I had intended that the tune and its title (“The Red-Haired Girl of Stoneybridge”) be kept from Maria as a surprise for the big day when my brother, Allan, would play it on the pipes as she arrived at Bornish Church. In the event, he surprised us both by playing largely his own version! Beautiful as it was, I thought Maria might enjoy hearing the melody as first imagined.
